National Student Clearinghouse Data Breach
Maxey Law Firm is investigating National Student Clearinghouse, which recently sent a Notice of Data Breach to impacted individuals. The notice states that the Data Breach arose from a vulnerability in a file transfer application that National Student Clearinghouse uses called MOVEit.
National Student Clearinghouse reported that the third-party data breach impacted 51,689 individuals.
For each of these 51,689 individuals, the information involved may have included their name, date of birth, contact information, Social Security number, student ID number, and/or certain school-related records (for example, enrollment records, degree records, and course-level data)
It is unclear whether or not the Social Security numbers were encrypted and, if not, why they were not encrypted.
