Coastal Orthopedics & Sports Medicine of Southwest Florida (“Coastal”) Privacy Event

Maxey Law Firm is investigating Coastal Orthopedics & Sports Medicine of Southwest Florida (“Coastal”), which recently sent a Notice of Privacy Event to impacted individuals. The notice states that the Privacy Event arose from unauthorized access to Coastal’s network, likely between June 6, 2023 and June 11, 2023, during which certain files and folders within the network were taken without authorization.

Coastal reported that the Privacy Event affected 501 individuals.

For each of these 501 individuals, the information involved may have included their names, Social Security numbers, patient identification numbers, medical record numbers, diagnosis information, other medical information, addresses, driver’s license number, health insurance information, financial account information, and dates of birth.

The notice does not state whether or not the Social Security numbers and other sensitive information were encrypted and, if not, why they were not encrypted.
