SouthCoast Health Data Breach Lawsuit Investigation

Maxey Law Firm is investigating SouthCoast Health, which recently sent notice of a data breach to impacted individuals.

According to the notice, between June 15 - June 18, 2023, an unauthorized actor gained access to SouthCoast Health’s network and viewed or copied certain filed stored on certain systems.

SouthCoast Health reported that the data breach may have impacted 32,835 residents of South Carolina. Residents of other states may also have been impacted.

For each of these individuals, the information involved may have included their name, address, Social Security number information, driver’s license number, government-issued ID number (e.g. passport, state ID card), medical information, health insurance information, and/or date of birth.

It is unclear whether or not the Social Security numbers were encrypted and, if not, why they were not encrypted.
